I just finished reading Heinlein's Farmer in the Sky. I would like to
read more but was disappointed by this book. Could anyone recommend to
me works of his that they favour?
Thanks in advance :)

Farmer In the Sky is one of RAH's juvenile novels written in 1950, unless
you are quite young, it probably would be disappointing.

These novels essentially stand alone :
Sixth Column
Beyond This Horizon
The Puppet Masters - better than the movie
Double Star
The Door into Summer
Starship Troopers - MUCH better than the movie
Stranger in a Strange Land - satire of evangelists- still appropriate
Glory Road
Farnham's Freehold
I Will Fear No Evil
Friday
Job: A Comedy of Justice

Read this group as a series -
Methuselah's Children - introduces Lazerus Long and Libby Long
Time Enough for Love - Life and times of L. Long
The Number of the Beast - ties ALL literature and stories together
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress - Read before TCWWTW
The Cat Who Walks Through Walls - read TMIAHM first
To Sail Beyond the Sunset

This site has other listings, check the collections list for other good
titles

RAH reading becomes an addiction, welcome to the slippery slope!

Thankyou for the recommendations, I will be putting them on hold at my

Guess I'm a little behind but I just found this group...

Anyway, Mr. McClure is spot on. The titles he gives are great and the
order fits well

What to read?
Easy enough; read everything Mr Heinlein puts down in ink.
The Juvenile stories are still good from an adult perspective, just
remember the audience they were intended for and the year(s) they were
written in. The rest described as Read As Series are must read titles
and the recommended order seems to fit well.

I can't say for sure what the difference is, but do get the version of
Stranger that Mrs. Heinlein released after R.A.H. passed on.
It's the original version he intended before it was edited for the
original release.

Stranger in a Strange Land - known as "the bible of the 'love generation'"
is one of Heinlein's best works. This book was a fairly big influence in
my converting to Theosophy.

If you choose to buy it ensure the edition is labelled "original uncut".
Early editions were brutalized by censors.

Happy New Year.

imho 'Stranger in a Strange Land' was an exceptional book and 'The Cat Who
Walked Through Walls' very clever also.... but I would not recommend 'Time
enough for Love' as it will (sadly) suggest Heinlein to be a seriously
depraved man.

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress [an essential read] and The Star Beast are two
of my favorites.
Star Beast would make a great movie, equal to "ET,the Extra-terrestrial".
I don't know if it's back in print. It may be hard to find.

I second The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and maybe one of his short story
collections like The Past through Tomorrow, although that one isn't
easy to find anymore, or The Menace from Earth.

To the OP: Farmer in the Sky is one of his "juvenile" novels, like
Rocket Ship Galileo, Space Cadet, Space Family Stone and Farnham's
Freehold, you may want to avoid those.
Other novels I _would_ recommend are The Door into Summer, Double Star
and yes, although the philosophy is questionable, Starship Troopers.
Citizen of the Galaxy was written in about the same period.

And his best known work, of course, is Stranger in a Strange Land,
not one of the easiest to read, but still a classic.

PS: I have NO idea which of the above are still in print.

I've seen them at bookstores. "Stranger" too.
